Renaissance Equestrian Foundation (REF), we are a 501 C-3 organization

To provide the best possible care to retired thoroughbreds, as well as provide educational opportunities to individuals in a friendly, welcoming atmosphere, enabling retired race horses to transition into a career and forever home.

We have partnered with Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation (TRF) as the first Sanctuary farm in Maryland. Our farm will be the horse’s new forever home!

Purpose is to bring the thoroughbred services and community together, by way of:
1) Providing an educational venue to show the value of these horses which includes:
  • Permanently injured horses - the (5) TRF horses we currently care for, Chester, General, Roo, Sonny & Teddy (all between 14 to 17 yrs old) OTTB’s would be used for:
    1. ☆ Practicing for certifications in Pony Club/4H
☆ Medical care of horse – taking TPR, wrapping legs, etc
      ☆ Learning horsemanship
☆ Proper care of a horse
  • Horses that are not rideable due to arthritis and age: Sadie – 22 yr old TB/Clydesdale & Jesse 28 yr old TB
  • Horses that are sound but not rideable – Walt 6yr old OTTB, a Narcoleptic horse
  • Horses that have been injured and are still rideable with lower impact riding, which is Charlie 10 yr old OTTB, he has kissing spine, but still rideable
  • Horses completely capable of riding – Like Princess Tiny 6 yr old OTTB, she came from the Retired Race Horse Project, she is young and quite capable of any discipline
2) Providing a website to include all aspects of owning and training a thoroughbred
  • Instructors (who specifically work with off-the-track thoroughbreds)
  • List of Boarding facilities in your area
  • Organizations that sell/adopt off-the-track thoroughbreds
  • Educational materials/Books/Links
3) Provide a venue for seminars and lectures such as:
  • Veterinarians, Farriers, Nutritionists, Saddle Fitters
  • Chiropractors, Dentists, Massage/Craniosacral Therapists
  • Authors, such as: Kimberly Goodwin Clark (Book: New Track…New Life)
  • Re-training Specialists

REF has donated the facilities (first of two run-in sheds ready with (5) stalls and feed room, plus 15 x 60 overhang for (2) additional stalls and hay storage), land, fencing and automatic waterers. We are now in need of donations to build the second run-in shed and the educational center. We are very excited to provide a home for these very loyal and generous horses - and with your help, we can ensure they live out the rest of their lives in peace and comfort!
